I’m keeping this week simple, using questions you might want to use at your Thanksgiving table. Some take prayerful thought, so you might want to send them out before time. Most of these questions are for believers but I’ve attached a list at the end for those of you having thanksgiving with unbelievers.
Sunday: Wonderful
We always ask at least the following question at our Thanksgiving table, for it works for believers and unbelievers alike.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
Monday: Counselor
2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
Tuesday: Creator
3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.)
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you?
Wednesday: Everlasting Father
Terry Meeuwsen, founder of “Ophan’s Promise” which ministers to 50,000 orphans all over the world, believes we all have an “orphan spirit,” even those of us who have been blessed with a good earthly father. God has put eternity in our hearts, and we long for the Eternal Father who will love us perfectly.
5. If possible, share a time when you sensed the Father’s love or kindness for you this year.
6. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.)
Thanksgiving Day: Provider
7. How has the Lord provided for you this year? In your life? (Food, friends, shelter…)
8. What happened this Thanksgiving Day for which you can be thankful?
Friday: Prince of Peace, King of Kings
9. In a world of war and woe, what gives you hope?
10. What are some things to which you are looking forward in the Palengensia (the New Heaven and New Earth)? (One description is in Isaiah 65:17-25)
Saturday: Immanuel
11. Name a few things Jesus had to give up or suffer to be with us. Give thanks.
12. What there a little or big time recently where you sensed His presence? If so, share.
Thanksgiving Questions with Unbelievers
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been last year?
2. Lift up the name of each person and have one to three people share one reason they are thankful for that person.
3. What is something in nature that delights you where you live?

The Scripture that impressed me most was during the study of Judges with Paige and my commentary by Keller — that Jephthah was so conformed to his culture that he sacrificed his daughter to try to get a little extra help from his idol and receive the praise of man. How deceitful my heart can be in the same way, in longing for the praise of man, an idol I would like to smash to smithereens. This sin beneath the sin causes me to shade the truth, be anxious about rejection, and quench His loving Spirit.
Thank you for your transparency, Dee. You allow us to be very honest on this blog.
Oh, Dee! Thank you for this!! I need to be rid of my idol of self!! It is all about the heart, and mine must belong to HIM alone!
Dee, Amen to this…”How deceitful my heart can be in the same way, in longing for the praise of man, an idol I would like to smash to smithereens.”
Thank you for sharing and your perseverance in putting up this blog week after week😊❤️

We always ask at least the following question at our Thanksgiving table, for it works for believers and unbelievers alike.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
I struggled with gratitude as the year 2023 presented some hardships at school. I felt “trapped” with my schedule and the help I was counting on fizzled. I was committed to fulfilling my contract, yet there was an undercurrent ripple of a complaining heart.
This year, though even harder in a different way, I am seeing hardships this year as a gift from God. I have found myself grateful for how the Lord is helping me learn to live day by day and to rest in His guidance and provision. He has shown me that His Word is true, Philippians 4:6-7 “to not be anxious about anything but in everything, with THANKSGIVING, to let my requests be made known to Him…and His peace will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus…
Somebody in this blog once said the more we lean on Jesus, the more we lean on Him! And I am thankful this year for His faithfulness, grace, and open arms without reproach whenever I feel like I am failing Him. He is indeed, wonderful!
Happy Thanksgiving Week to all!
Heart changes are such a wonderful illustration of the power of God and a huge reason for Thanksgiving!
Oh, Bing! I needed this Scripture! I need to lean on only HIM! Thank you for sharing this.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you precious women!!
Bing, what you shared here is such a great reminder of taking what we’re going through and asking God what He is teaching us through it…thanks for sharing and the verse you shared was constantly my prayer in response to question 1.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
I am so thankful that the American people came together and “spoke” at the polls this year. Our country has been in a downward spiral with policy, for so many years, and the madness needs to stop. We are sovereign, as a nation, and need to act the part. It is time for us to all come together and realize that the government works for us, not the other way around. Thank You Lord for overseeing our nation and helping us be the light in the world.
I am also thankful for my son being able to come visit at Christmas, from the Netherlands, and the fact that we will all (mostly) be together at that time. that hasn’t happened in awhile.
How wonderful to have all of your family together for Christmas, Laura! I, too, am thankful to live in the country!
Laura, how wonderful that your son is coming home for Christmas and that your family will “mostly” be together!
Laura, so good to hear about your son being home. I went to the polls knowing God is sovereign over all authority. I often marvel at how He brings His will and purposes but we know we can trust His ways.
I agree with you about our sovereign God. Yes! I have a hard time with the abortion issue. I can’t believe the President just gave the Medal of Honor to the ex-director of Planned Parenthood after all the abortions for which they are responsible. Despicable and so very sad.
Sunday: Wonderful
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
I’m thankful that we finally received our tax returns this year that we were supposed to get last year and therefore able to pay off our car! It was a year of trusting God that all would work out and continually putting it into His hands…not an easy lesson!
Love this, Sharon!
Wow, Sharon! God’s timing is perfect!
Sunday: Wonderful
We always ask at least the following question at our Thanksgiving table, for it works for believers and unbelievers alike.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
—This year in March my daughter-in-law in Texas was completely inebriated and had a terrible vehicle accident on their ranch while she and I were there alone. But God met her and spoke to her personally in her unconscious state as I was holding her hand thinking she had died and calling to Him for help. In that time she gave her heart to Him and was healed spiritually. And she was set completely free from her addiction to alcohol. Then within a few days she was healed physically from serious injuries. All were miraculous healings truly by the hand of God. I’m still in awe of the amazing work He did and has done in her life. In the days before all that my husband and I feeling helpless had committed to prayer for her spiritually and her alcoholism. She was a very angry and bitter woman but God answered our prayers beyond what we could have imagined. God gets all the glory!!
Wow, Bev!
Oh, Bev! I remember you sharing this story and it still gives me chills!! Praising Him!!
Bev, I, too, remember when you shared this! It gives me hope for the people I love who are not walking with God.
Bev, I love this encouraging testimony and how God used you!
Oh my goodness Bev, this is amazing. God is so good.
2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
This verse is special this year.
“So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:7, 9 ESV
I thought I had over come a “thorn” however I still struggle every day. Oh Lord! Why do I do the things I know I should not? I’m glad I highlighted this verse in my Bible app to remind me that Christ gives me all that I need in Him. Thank You Jesus.
Laura, a great reminder verse!
This is a great verse, Laura! Love this: I’m glad I highlighted this verse in my Bible app to remind me that Christ gives me all that I need in Him. Thank You Jesus.
This has been a year of spiritual growth for me that did spring out of cloudy days — but He has met me with His love. I am reading much more — good things — and praying much more. I am so very thankful for increased intimacy with Him.
Love love love this, Dee. Thank you Lord for your faithfulness!
So encouraged to read this, Dee! I need to grow in the area of prayers and reading that which feeds the soul and spirit.

2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
—There are several I have memorized that I go to almost daily for strength, comfort and encouragement but I’ll just go with my verse for the year which goes with my word for the year “Abide”.
“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” 1 John 4:16 ESV
Two key elements to this verse for me are knowing and believing. The “knowing” has been something deeper than a head knowledge about God. It is a heart knowledge of experiencing God’s very personal love for me. It is the believing that moved me from just knowing about the love of God to knowing and experiencing it in my heart of hearts. I believe He loves me and He has affirmed it time and time again through his Word in particular. The study and sharing that has taken place on the blog here has contributed in great measure to my coming to “know and believe” the love God has for me. I am so grateful to Him. 💕
Thank you for sharing this verse, Bev. I have so missed all of you on this blog, during my time of moving. Thanking God that I am able to be back here!!
AMEN to this: The study and sharing that has taken place on the blog here has contributed in great measure to my coming to “know and believe” the love God has for me. I am so grateful to Him. 💕
Missed you too Patti! Would love for us to meet up sometime. I don’t mind driving. You could meet Cooper and Grace 😉
I would love to meet you sometime, Laura!! Maybe after the Holidays! I would love to meet Cooper and Grace!
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why?
I have struggled with loneliness for the past 14 months and I often feel like I am free floating and don’t know where I belong. When I feel this way, I know I need to look to God’s Word and to pray in the name of Jesus, for the Lord to open my eyes. He truly is our Father, husband and companion, regardless of circumstances. I am thankful to be near family, yet I know that He is all I truly need to not be alone. I am so thankful of your example, Dee. You have invested yourself in others so beautifully. I am praying that the Lord will show me His path for my future. I feel He directed me here, but I am not feeling totally settled yet. I am praying to find a friend close by. I am very thankful that He brought me to this neighborhood. The neighbors are all friendly and kind. I am so thankful that I am able to communicate with friends from Issaquah, where I lived so many years. I pray daily that He will show me His way. When I pray and read His Word, I am comforted and I know it is not about “me”. I want it to be about Him every minute. Lord keep my heart on Your path.
Patti, you have such a big heart for the things of God. I am certain He will grant the desires of your heart. Despite your hard journey, you have ministered to so many of us through your encouraging words, your faithful perseverance, and your love in action. I, too. am thankful for Dee and how this holy space from God has strengthened our bonds as sisters in Christ.
Question: I’ve been trying to think of a way to practice my big Christmas tea talk with you — all I can think of is doing by zoom next week and taking input from you.
Is there anyone who would be willing to collect e-mails for those who want to watch — say a week from this Wednesday at 9:00 Central Time? Then send out a zoom invite including me and I’d do my talk in 4 parts and stop and get input after each part.
Let me know!
Dee
Dee, I would be glad to collect the emails and do the Zoom invite. I only have a free account which would be good for 30-40 minutes. So If it goes over, I need to send another invite/link after the minutes are used up for the first call.
One other option is for you to schedule a Zoom call if you have a Zoom Pro account, send the link to me and I can copy and paste it to send to whoever wants to participate. Then we can click on that link to get to you. This way we cannot get cut off. I hope this makes sense.
But I do not mind setting up another Zoom link/invite after the first call. Everyone just has to wait for a little bit. Let me know.
So nice — Bing Let me see if there is interest.
If you are interested would you let me know? The talk without the 2 movie clips which most of you have seen (Karla Faye Tucker and Aslan) is under 35 minutes. I could also do 20 minutes and take input — and then do it a second day. Please weigh in if you are interested!
Dee
Okay-I will wait for your instructions. I have penciled in Dec 3 Zoom with Dee on my calendar. It would be fun and a special treat!
I have a dental appointment with a new dentist (eeek! scary) on Dec 3, from 10:00-12:00 noon. (East Coast time), but if you change the time, let me know. I would love to take part.
I would be interested in this. It would be so nice to see everyone.
Oh Dee! I would love to do it but I work at that time. Any chance you could do it later? What about 1:30 Central time? I could do that!
Let’s see if anyone else is interested — and we’ll try to find a time that works — or split it into two days with one morning and one afternoon so people could at least half.
Sounds good!

2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
It would be hard for me to pick one for this year. The study in Joshua and Judges was very good. The compassionate and gracious God was fully displayed in the chapters that we were able to study with Paige.
I have also been participating in a Bible Study Fellowship Study of Revelation through Zoom. Our study leader is from around the Kansas City area. There are about 10 of us in the study. This is at a slower pace than when we did Revelation in 2021! We started in September, and we will get done in May, I believe. We just finished week 10 and am so thankful for so many radioactive verses from the first 5 chapters!
One thing that has stood out for me is the ceaseless praise and worship of God from all of His creation. I was challenged to be serious in living a life of worship in preparation for the worship we shall be doing when we get to Heaven!
Another is the hope that I have for the future. Jesus is Lord and King. I was challenged and encouraged by Tim Keller as he spoke about the doctrine of belief in Jesus’ claims as the Messiah and King.
Revelation 5:12-13
In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever!”
Bing, I love the idea of living a life for worship to prepare for the worship we will be doing in Heaven!
3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.)
I love fall where I live. The trees are breathtaking in their colors! Red, purple, fiery orange, green, yellow and brown! Amazing! Another beauty is the cut outs of the rock on the highways. Although I am not in the mountains, I am reminded of the Earth and its formation. You can see the details if you know historical geology. The folds, where the rocks have been compressed, the layers laid down in the ocean. So cool.
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you?
How the body heals itself is pretty amazing to me. When the white blood cells, the defenders, rush to the site to heal. So sweet! I like my eyes. They are big and blue. My dad’s think. I have other characteristics of my father and that is something I am glad for because I lost him at such a young age. I can remember him through some of my features.
Please let me know if you are interested in a zoom call where I’d “practice” my Christmas Tea talk and get in put from you. It is about 30 minutes. Or, we could do it over two days and split it in half and get comments. So far Bing and Laura have expressed interest. It would be sometime next week.
Dee, I would be very interested!😊
Great!
I am very interested! 🙂

3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.)
—We live in a place of beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Just this morning just before sunrise with the configuration of the clouds and moisture in the air the color above the horizon was an intense and beautiful dark bright pink. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you?
—The intricacies of the human body are beyond description. The brain, the heart, the lungs and the circulatory system are an unbelievable maze of detail and syncretized structure that is designed to function together. It had a designer. In a devotional reading I read just this morning was taken from the scripture Genesis 2:7, NIV “The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.”
The thought was that at the time of creation God spoke everything else into being except Man. He took the time to “form” Adam.
The comments were this:
“God personally shaped the physical characteristics of man with His own hands and breathed into man His own life! Such knowledge should cause us to pause and worship the Creator Who molded you and me from the “dust of the ground.”
—Hard personal question as to having a feature I’m glad God gave me. I am truly grateful for the 5 senses that allow me to enjoy beauty, music, the smell and taste of excellent food and the sense of softness and warmth. All are gifts from God.
So true about the senses. I would surely miss any of them!
2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
I love the Psalms and I have mentioned before that Psalm 23 has been my daily prayer. Listening to the voice of the Shepherd. Praying each line of the Psalm in a meaningful way, brought new meaning to each word. As we studied the small book by Phillip Keller’s book, A Shepherd Looks at the Psalm, I felt such comfort and peace. Psalm 104 and Psalm 91 also became my focus. Dwelling in His shelter; Praising His creation; trusting in Him as my Shepherd all have helped me through my roller coaster year of so many changes. I am so thankful for the Presence of the Lord, for the Power of the Holy Spirit and for the gift of God sustaining me, in ways that are far beyond my understanding. Through the Word of God, being alone has come to mean, spending time in The Presence of the Lord. Yesterday and today were very hard days for me, yet He is here with me and I am content.
Patti, I too love Psalm 23 and so enjoyed all you wrote here. It has been a Psalm that was brought to life for me through Phillip Keller’s book and also has brought comfort and peace.

1. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.)
I love the changing colors brought about by fall; my garden that my husband and I worked on together; corn and soybean fields, Christmas tree farm, and a flower farm owned by friends; cattle, and wildflowers.
2. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you?
The brain! Maybe because I teach Anatomy and Physiology and have always been fascinated with how such small organs in the body have BIG tasks to keep us alive and functioning well!
I love that God made me as small as I am. I can easily squeeze into tight places, love feeling the warmth of people’s big hands when they envelop my smaller ones. I can use almost everything less (lol). And I can easily get away with some good banter and craziness because I look harmless. Hahaha
Bing, I smiled at your last comment…seems God gave you a sense of humor too😜❤️
Bing, That is delightful to hear you describe your small size and it’s advantages.
I loved that too, Bing!!!

2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5
This has been a year of the unknown for me in so many ways. I have prayed this verse quite often as a reminder to trust in Him and not lean on my understanding. It seems my mind works overtime at bedtime and this verse has brought me great peace and sleep!
That’s a good one for sleep.
I also use “He gives His beloved sleep” and “When my anxieties multiply, so do Your consolations.”
Tuesday: Creator
3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.)
I love the ocean and am always reminded of Psalm 33:7a when I see and hear the waves…“He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;”
I love all the variety of birds we have here from the Titmouse to the Great Blue Heron.
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body?
The reproductive system!
Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you?
I’m glad for the gift of sight. The ability to see and enjoy all of His creation.
The reproductive system!!!
I am thankful, as is Bing, for my brain and that it is still working. I have a sister who is in memory care — and she doesn’t know the Lord and has always been so anxious and I wonder if that contributed to it. I don’t know.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why? My newborn granddaughter! I have a far better relationship with my daughters-in-law then I anticipated and the result is that I get to spend as much time with my grandkids as I want and am very close to all of them.
2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you? Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. It comes to my mind frequently at work when I am finding myself wanting to slack off or having a bad attitude.
3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.) I live in a state that is surrounded by the Great Lakes. I get to experience all 4 of the seasons.
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you? I am always amazed at the body’s ability to heal. I am glad that I have a fully functioning body with no impairments.
Great verse.
And I too am so blessed by “my” great Lake Michigan.
5. If possible, share a time when you sensed the Father’s love or kindness for you this year.
I think the peace I have had, in the circumstances we have endured since August, is a testimony to the Father’s love for me. I know He is in charge of the situation and is protecting us no matter the end result. Thank You Lord!
6. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.)
I have had so many praying for our family both here and at our church. People walk up and say they are praying at random times. It helps to know this. I feel encapsulated by the prayer, as if a hedge is around us. Thank you so much!
I’m so glad you feel “encapsulated” by prayer.
—Often I am distracted and tempted to let anxious thoughts take over in my heart and life and to rob me of my peace But because of my neediness spiritually I have come to recognize that my need is met when I go to God and make it my habit to read his Word and to pray. I find more and more that I am being cared for by Him as I experience his presence and encouragement from being alone with Him. Even this week on Monday as we prepared to travel out to Colorado to be with family I felt overwhelmed with what I needed to do. But as I spent time early that morning with God I saw him take and orchestrate my day. And he sent a special blessing in letting me have an hour and a half phone conversation with my daughter-in-law. At the end of the day I felt very lived by Him.
6. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.)
—When my Mom passed away last February our church family came around us with such caring and grace. And my only sister Carol in particular has been the richest of blessings and support to my life.
On this blog each has contributed meaningful thoughts that I have gleaned and been encouraged by. But Patti’s loving comments often serve to encourage the regulars here. And her testimony of how God has cared for her in the most difficult trials of life this past year offer great encouragement as to the gracious ways of our God and Father. Also Bing is such a sweet voice here who was here before I started on this blog and has faithfully contributed.
I think it is wonderful to be alert to how God orchestrates our days.
Sunday: Wonderful
We always ask at least the following question at our Thanksgiving table, for it works for believers and unbelievers alike.
1. What can you be thankful for this year that you couldn’t have been thankful for last year? And why? – I’m thankful for the healing touch of God over two friends. Tom, who had extensive chemo for stomach cancer is now cancer free and Tim who had a very rare saliva gland cancer that brought stage 4 lung cancer has been given good news that the cancer in his jaw is gone, the spot on his head is gone and there are no signs of cancer anywhere else other than the lung and is able to have radiation for the lung cancer with a 90% assurance of five more years and not a possible death in spring. Thank you, Jesus, for always hearing our cries and providing blessings to us and those we pray for.
That is wonderful, Julie!
Julie, healing for two as a result of many prayers. Praise God!

2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you? – I keep seeing things pop up of how Jesus is our advocate and how he is my attorney. 1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” What a great God we serve. To love me so much, even when I sin, that he will stand before the judge for me with my sins on his shoulders. Thank you Jesus.
Tuesday: Creator
3. The Lord made the world and everything in it. List a few of the wonders you love right where you live. (The last three chapters in Job might give you extra inspiration.) – Joe took a big step and moved to Tennessee where we have no blood family around us. But God has provided everything for his plan in our lives. I love the Tennessee mountains that are around us. To walk out our doors and see them is just amazing to me. Our home with everything we asked for provided to us and to see so many stars in our backyard in the night sky. And I think the biggest thing for me is the kindness in the people who have become our family in Tennessee. The love each of them have for God and for others, makes my heart full and content.
4. Also, we are fearfully and wonderfully made — what causes you to be in awe about the human body? Do you have a feature you are glad He gave you? – I’ve always been a bit self-conscious of my body. I’m petite/short and this has bothered me a lot growing up and still at times it does now. But I’m learning to just accept who and how God made me to be. I’m learning that my outward appearance is not as important as who I am inside. There was no mistake in my size, for whatever reason God has, I am who I am, but I can be grateful for the most important thing, that I was chosen by God to be His. My body is working as God created it to be and it always has amazed me at how intricate our bodies are and how it all works together. I can’t even fathom that nothing but God, made us and I’m glad that he did.
I can identify with your insecurities on size yet also your good outlook.
Julie, I remember having to hem and “retouch” clothes when I came to the US! So I do identify with your struggle about being short/petite. I love this: “There was no mistake in my size, for whatever reason God has, I am who I am, but I can be grateful for the most important thing, that I was chosen by God to be His.”
Wednesday: Everlasting Father
Terry Meeuwsen, founder of “Orphan’s Promise” which ministers to 50,000 orphans all over the world, believes we all have an “orphan spirit,” even those of us who have been blessed with a good earthly father. God has put eternity in our hearts, and we long for the Eternal Father who will love us perfectly.
5. If possible, share a time when you sensed the Father’s love or kindness for you this year. – During worship a couple of weeks ago, I felt his presence around me. I had been praying for our friend Tim to get a good report from his pet scan and one of the songs, I don’t even remember which one it was, I was singing, and tears were coming to the surface, and I felt Him there. I felt His peace come over me and I was believing that God was confirming that His report would show itself and it did. There are no other signs of cancer in his body and some of the other cancer is gone and he is able to have radiation for lung cancer. Thank you, Jesus, for always being near when I need you the most.
6. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.) – Back in September, when Hurricane Helene came to land, small towns around us in Tennessee and NW North Carolina were devasted. So many churches, people and organizations stepped up right away to help with whatever they could. We bought water and food items and hygiene items and helped clean up homes that were filled with mud to try and find some items that they could hold on to as a memory of what was lost. Our youth pastor brought kids from our church to help people they don’t even know. A friend from Indiana came down with a group to help. God’s people are out here, and no one can say otherwise. There is no stopping people from helping, there was no race issue. People were seen as people who needed help. God’s creation showing his love for others gives me hope to know that God is in control of this world. It’s His and He will protect it. There is still and will be so much help still needed, and I know, by what I’ve seen already that God’s people, his children will be out to help as long as it takes to restore the lives of these people.
Dee, I needed to let you know I would be interested in the possible zoom next week. The only time I’m would not be available is Tuesday during the day because my husband and I have dental appointments and we have to Kearney for those.
Oh Bev — shoot. The only time the 5 of us could agree on was Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 Central time. I’m so sorry. May do it again sometime.
Not a problem Dee. Scheduling is hard so yes maybe next time. 😊
This is a new phrase for me, “orphan spirit”. Oh, so true. Even with the best of earthly fathers, there is still a longing for who is eternal.
1. If possible, share a time when you sensed the Father’s love or kindness for you this year.
I thank God for giving me 17 days of being together with my daughter when we traveled to the Philippines this summer. He lovingly provided for our needs and gave us quality time together as well as with our extended family.
2. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.)
Dee-for your godly leadership and faithfulness; for Patti, Lizzy, Sharon, Bev, Missy, Susan, Judy, Diane, Jill, Mary, Julie, Nila, Dawn, and Tammy for being an example of friendship (Proverbs 27:17) and always pointing me to Jesus. For the women in Dee’s Bible Study FB page and their prayers for me.
For my local church-for their love for us as their pastor and wife.
For my friend, Barb, (our church pianist) who is like a mother to me. She comes up with quirky, spontaneous getaways for just the two of us, Even with her health challenges, she will do anything for me if she is able. And she is 89 years young!
I am so thankful for all my senses — eyes to take in people and creation — taste buds for the good things He has allowed us to eat — hearing for music and conversation and nature — touch for soft clothes and hugs — and smell for my Balsam candle right now.
I want you to know that I’m thankful for you. You minister to me with your rich thoughts and tender hearts and stories. I look forward to meeting with you each day.

2. Was there a Scripture passage that became radioactive to you this year? If so, what is it, and how is it helping you?
Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life. (Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.) This scripture became radioactive to me during a Bible study group last spring, “Falling in Love With Jesus.” Truly a kiss from the king, it echoes in my heart/mind during my days now. I am spending more time with my Bible and less time watching television. I am much more circumspect about what the movies I do watch.
I had thought I was a strong Christian, wise and mature; but I can now see that was pride and had led to complacency. Proverbs 4:23 is a verse of action, constant watchfulness.
7. How has the Lord provided for you this year? In your life? (Food, friends, shelter…)
He has provided our family the means to support, financially, those who are struggling to survive on their own. I am thankful that He has always provided for me, personally, no matter what. Thank You Lord.
8. What happened this Thanksgiving Day for which you can be thankful?
Our daughter participated and was actually polite. Thank You Lord for a peaceful day today.
Thanksgiving Day: Provider
1. How has the Lord provided for you this year? In your life? (Food, friends, shelter…)
We had extra expenses this year, but we have seen God provide through my part-time job and a few “private” nursing-related home health care. I remember planning for our summer trip to the Philippines and praying for a particular amount to bring with me so I could share it with my relatives at a gathering there. After I took care of a neighbor for several days, his daughter sent me a card with the exact amount I prayed for!
Several meaningful friendships have developed this past year, and I cannot thank God enough. They came as such an opportune time only God could orchestrate them!
2. What happened this Thanksgiving Day for which you can be thankful?
On our way to our gathering today at my sister-in-law’s house in KC, I prayed for several specific things and saw God honor those prayers. He also gave me insight into how to best minister to my husband, Richard’s side of the family as I helped prepare food and listened to the conversations nearby. Although I wished I would have had this insight before now, I am thankful that God is giving me another “chance”. His timing is always perfect.
I know all of these partly because of the fellowship ministry in this blog. The open sharing of struggles with family and seeing the faithfulness and perseverance of my dear sisters here has encouraged me to not give up but to trust God and to listen to His voice and obey.
I loved your insight into Thanksgiving day. Learning to really listen is such a way of showing Christ’s love.
I traveled to Bettendorf, Iowa to be with my daughter Beth and her family of 5. Like Bing, I am honing listening skills and it has been so good. After reading “End the Stalemate” we practiced listening to one another on divisive issues (though we don’t have many of those – but played devil’s advocate) and saying what they said back to them. In this book Sean McDowell (son of JOsh) said you can either strawman the argument by making it weaker that it actually was or steelman it, by making it better than it actually was. When you do that, the listener feels respected and heard!
Oh, Dee! That sounds like a good book! This gave me goosebumps! This morning I received a text from a good friend who attends the Bible Studies I have been leading regularly. I sent her and a mutual friend a link last night to a song that brought an awful memory to her. I was taken aback, But long story short, we exchanged texts and clarified the matter. My intent was for the three of us to appreciate a beautifully rendered piece by the singer (we three are musically inclined). I am learning to “hear” the other person and see things from their perspective. And she told me she is learning not to just speak her mind quickly. So thankful for friends who are willing to engage in conversations that could otherwise fester and cause resentment. This made me commit myself to pausing and praying before I send texts. “Steelman vs Strawman” got to remember this! (smile)
That’s interesting. This book does talk about trying to understand all the factors that brought a person to where they are — so true too. Like your story.

7. How has the Lord provided for you this year? In your life? (Food, friends, shelter…)
—When I consider how God has provided for me I would have to say abundantly. We have more than enough food and frequently are sharing meals and times of fellowship with family and good friends. We have a modest but a nice home in a relatively small town and are comfortable in our place in our community. I recognize the danger of that but we are not complacent. So interestingly for the first 3 months of this year we lived in Texas in a two room Casita overlooking a valley and were very comfortable there as well being close to our son. It was clearly brought home in my mind that living more simply has its merits.
Most importantly I have felt provided for in deep and meaningful ways spiritually. I can’t begin to list here the goodness of God in his provisions for my heart’s needs.
8. What happened this Thanksgiving Day for which you can be thankful?
—We spent Thanksgiving at the home of my youngest daughter’s in-laws in Colorado Springs. Late in the afternoon my daughter who is an accomplished pianist offered to play some of her music for us so we went over to the church where her in-laws attend and it has a baby grand piano. Since Lindie and her family live 1,000 miles away up in Montana we don’t see each other very often. It is a special treat to get to listen to her play. Also her two boys 11 & 8 are now taking lessons as well. And it was a delight to have them play their piano pieces for us. Needless to say it was a gift for me from my daughter and from the Lord and I am thankful for it.
That sounds lovely, Bev. Also liked you experiencing the joy of simplicity in your two room Casita.
Bev, I like this: “…living more simply has its merits.”
9. In a world of war and woe, what gives you hope?
Another, related question is what has made me hopeless? It started for me in 2015 when Kate Steinle, a San Franciscan, was killed in the middle of the day by an illegal alien who had been deported 6 times! He was never convicted of killing her. From there it went to gang shootings in Chicago nearly every day, where innocent people were killed. I remember a sweet little girl, laying in her bed, being shot to death by gang fighting. I remember an elderly gentleman asking a judge if he could carry a weapon to defend himself and the judge saying no. Then in 2019 when all hell broke loose in our country and people in Portland, Oregon and NYC, thought it was okay to maim and kill people and no one did anything to stop it. I watched videos, one of a man who was knocked down by another who had taken a running start and kicked the man in the head. The man DIED. No one did anything. Same in NYC. Elderly ladies getting punched and the perpetrator would be arrested and released. No punishment at all. Our border being disrespected and anyone from anywhere can just cross into our country, no problem. It’s as if the American people mean nothing to the powers that be, but only for our money, in taxes, to be used against us! No more crazy woke things like children at 14, feeling like they are mis-gendered, knowing what’s best for the rest of their lives! If I ask an adult now if they knew what was best for their lives when they were 14, they would say absolutely not! None of us did. Trust me, I teach that age, for nearly 30 years now…
So, to answer your question, I finally feel hope with the new administration coming in soon. It’s as if my parents are coming back and will make everyone “toe the line.” Rules will matter and people will not feel as if they don’t count as an American citizen anymore. The upside down “clown world” where criminals are released and citizens are put in jail when they speak their minds, will change. Thank the Lord!
10. What are some things to which you are looking forward in the Palengensia (the New Heaven and New Earth)? (One description is in Isaiah 65:17-25)
Healthy people! Eternal life in peace and joy. A body that is at least 5’8” or more! No pain, no sadness, no fighting. Only love. ♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏
Your last answer about being 5’8′ in the Palengensia made me smile.

9. In a world of war and woe, what gives you hope?
—The Word of God. The Bible serves to encourage my heart daily and my wonderful God and Savior through the sweet Holy Spirit reveals Himself and speaks into the deepest needs of my heart through it. A favorite verse of mine.
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
10. What are some things to which you are looking forward in the Palengensia (the New Heaven and New Earth)? (One description is in Isaiah 65:17-25)
—“Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy.” Isa 65:18
I particularly like the thoughts here in verse 18 talking about gladness, rejoicing, happiness and joy. It will be a place immersed in joy. Gone will be the heartaches and sorrows of this present world.
Great post Bev! I wish I had such faith as you. God help my unbelief.
One of my favorite words from Jesus is in John 14 when after telling them He is going away to prepare a place for them He says “If it were not so I would have told you.”

1. In a world of war and woe, what gives you hope?
The promise of Jesus is coming again and there will be no more of the old order of things. That as He is coming again, He is also with us/me through the indwelling Holy Spirit right now.
2. What are some things to which you are looking forward in the Palengensia (the New Heaven and New Earth)? (One description is in Isaiah 65:17-25)
There will be ceaseless joy and harmony with all! Oh, wow! I have forgotten this part of the first verse: “The former things will not be remembered; nor will they come to mind!”

1. Name a few things Jesus had to give up or suffer to be with us. Give thanks.
I thank you, Lord, for the gift of you, of eternal life, and of your company in Heaven. “You left your throne of glory, knowing your destiny was the lonely hill of Golgotha,” there to lay down your life (voluntarily) for me. You gave up your deity, forsaken by the Father when you were sin for me and He couldn’t look at you that isn’t love, what is?
2. What there a little or big time recently where you sensed His presence? If so, share.
I just had a 5-way call to my family in the Philippines this morning. Seeing all of us, older but hopefully all wiser, across thousands of miles and time difference (so far but yet so near, thank God for technology!) it was very heartwarming to hear their familiar voices. I sensed God’s smile on us as we enjoyed the hour-long conversation in my dialect and got caught up with what was going on in our lives.

5. If possible, share a time when you sensed the Father’s love or kindness for you this year.
I sense His love for me each and everyday!
6. How have God’s children ministered to you this year? Be specific. (Bloggers might remember something specific from this rich family.)
This is a hard question for me as I have removed myself from being involved in our church. So I have to say all of you here have ministered to me. I am encouraged by everyone in their evident love for the Lord and for one another. Y’all challenge me in my relationship with the Lord and for that I’m very thankful .
Somehow I didn’t know this, Sharon — and it speaks of great pain. Praying for healing for you and your church.

7. How has the Lord provided for you this year? In your life? (Food, friends, shelter…)
I’m thankful for His provision of a nice home and food.
8. What happened this Thanksgiving Day for which you can be thankful?
I’m thankful for my sweet husband who was a big help in preparing the thanksgiving meal at our house. He got up at 4am to prepare the Turkey and get it in the smoker by 5am! Just a side note…this is the first time we have brined and smoked a Turkey and it’s the best I’ve ever had!!
I’m thankful for my family and what they contributed to the meal as well.
My son was unable to attend as he came down with pneumonia but thankfully with all the meds he is slowly doing better.
Jim sounds like such a great guy — like his parents.

That I know how the story ends…Revelation 21!!
10. What are some things to which you are looking forward in the Palengensia (the New Heaven and New Earth)? (One description is in Isaiah 65:17-25)
I’m looking forward to seeing Jesus face to face, having a new body with no pain and everything will be new!

11. Name a few things Jesus had to give up or suffer to be with us. Give thanks.
These verses immediately came to mind…
“Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”
Philippians 2:7-8 NLT
12. What there a little or big time recently where you sensed His presence? If so, share.
In situations that have come up I’m so thankful I can turn to Him and feel no condemnation but only love and encouragement.
