The Song of Songs opens with “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth.” We understand what this means on an earthly level — but what does it mean in the eternal relationship we have with our Bridegroom, Jesus?
A kiss from the King, according to Rabbinic tradition, is a “living word of prophecy.” Has a Word from the Lord jumped from the Scriptures and into your heart recently? When that happens, you have been kissed by the King.
Think about the best romantic kisses. It happens when you are yearning for only him, when you are still, when you feel beautiful because you know you are loved, when you are responsive… When you are that open, pure, and passionate in your time with God, you may just get kissed!
Let us know how He is kissing you!

God has been kissing me alot lately. He sings to me in the evening with the beautiful sounds of fall all around me. He sweetly holds me and reminds me that I am His.
Good to hear from you, Susan. We missed you last weekend. Another time!
I love your application of being “kissed by the King”! A friend of mine recently shared a similar analogy with me.
I had come to refer to these moments/events as “postcards or “love notes” from my Father. I was sharing with my friend how a note she sent me had been directed by my Father, that it was a postcard from Him. She told me that she called them “kisses on the forehead”. She went on to describe how that when our children come to us with a problem, with a hurt, with a concern or worry, or just to express their love with a hug–how that we’ll bend over and kiss them on the forehead. She then said those words to me–“You’ve just been kissed on the forehead!”
It was a defining moment for me, a step into a new level of intimacy with my Father. I kiss on the forehead is definitely more intimate than a postcard and I realized that, yes, those moments for me were far more intimate than a “postcard” or “love note”–they were “kisses from the King!”
Blessings!
I like that so much, Susan.
Susan talked about a “kiss on the forehead.”
What significance do any of you see with the Shulammite saying, “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth?” How is that kind of kiss different? What might it represent?
I believe that “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth?” Indicates a deeper level of intimacy that you are entering into with our Lovely Lord. It is so wonderful to know that every step toward God that we make,is responded to by him moving closer to us also. He desires us to be totally open, honest, and sincere in our relationship to him. HOW AWESOME IS THAT !!! Thank you Dee, for you sharing with us your heart in your newest book,The God Of All Comfort.
God Bless You, Bea.
It it interesting that you asked for this. A group of women from my church in remote Upper Michigan recently finished your study “Falling in Love with Jesus”. It was my first time leading/facilitating a group, and the church did not have any other studies available for women. I felt the Lord led me to the study, but it was met with quite a bit of skepticism because of the title of the book. Several decided not to join the study, but we had a group of about 4 of us that went through the study together. It was a great time of learning. I felt the most profound kiss from the King was the story of Naomi, and I think most of the women in the group would agree. We had never realized the power of her story as you told it in the book. She had all but given up on God with all of the losses and trials she experienced. But, oh, when she realized God had not forgotten her! What an amazing testimony that God never leaves us, and never gives up on us, even during the hurt we all experience in life. Another kiss from the King I experienced was through some of the memory verses. Zeph 3:17, Psalm 23:4, and especially Galatians 2:20. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.” I am so not worthy, but he loves me so much that he was willing to die for me!
I guess I could go on and on about the blessings God showered on me through this study, but it would take all night! I can’t adequately express how this study has brought me to a place of truly believing I am Christ’s precious bride. Thank you Lord Jesus, for blessing Dee and Kathy and allowing them to write this beautiful study about how deeply and intimately you love us!
Marilyn — we do hear often that women are skeptical about the study, the romantic angle — I think people are so unfamiliar with the whole analogy in Scripture, even though it is throughout. I’ve puzzled about that, as I asked those questions in my last blog post. But I’m so thankful for your encouragement and positive testimonies. Thank you!
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth”… I think I flinch away too quickly from the Lord to allow such a kiss at present… I need to meditate upon such a wonderous expression of intimacy.
Thanks Dee, the way the Lord enlightens your thinking to such depths, it’s wonderful & find I can’t but help to go back & look over such scripture. Your comment about being responsive to the Lord’s kisses stops me in my tracks.
Thanks
Elizabeth — you always encourage my heart. I do think Song of Songs is an untapped book that can take us so much higher. People are nervous about the concept, as revealed by the comment of Marilyn K, who wrote just before you. I’ve wanted to do a book about it — but don’t know if Christian women are ready for it. But then there are those gems — like you!
Stay with me as I keep blogging about it — you are a treasure.
Please write the book, Dee…as the Spirit leads you that is. And be thou very courageous! I’ll be the first to buy!
