There are so many ways God has been merciful to our country despite our sin and selfishness. I’ll name one. He gave us a man like Abraham Lincoln. I read “Team of Rivals” by Doris Goodwin this year. (Lincoln’s cabinet was made up of the men who ran against him.)
Lincoln treated his rivals with dignity, and in election speeches would refer to his opponent as “my honorable opponent.” His speeches against slavery were clear, honest, and passionate. I found myself wondering if God heard the cries of His people, much as He heard the groaning of the Israelites in Egypt, and sent, not Moses, but Abraham Lincoln.
How have you seen God bless America?

I agree with you, Dee, about Abraham Lincoln.
I see God blessing America right now with a calling to truth. As one nation, under God, we have consumed so much that we have to rent storage units, larger than most houses in poor countries, to store our excess. As one nation, under God, we have pushed our responsibility for loving our neighbors onto the government to the point that our poor drown in red tape before getting the help they need. Our welfare system is the “new” form of slavery in this country. This pattern of greed and indifference has allowed the whisper of evil to become a loud shout of corruption. I believe God has said, “ENOUGH.” The truth is being discovered and, painfully, we will face our demons and the truth will set us free to once again become “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
What good thoughts, Janet. It’s true. True in my life too. Thanks for writing.
